We're implementing color management in a mixed Mac/PC graphics shop. We're using iQueue 1.40 from Gretag to handle all the profile conversions going out to our Fuji, inkjet, etc. The photographers are using PS6/Win2k to bring images in from scanners and apply profiles. We're running AdobeRGB as our default RGB raster work space. iQueue is setup to assume
SWOP coated for untagged CMYK.
Some of our artists are running G3's with Pagemaker 6.5 on OS 8.6 (ColorSync 2.x). None of these systems have color managed monitors. (The artists refuse to close the blinds on the windows as it will ruin their view.) We anticipate turning off color management on their machines since they don't do any PhotoShop work (just place files generated by others)
and shouldn't need to do any moves between color spaces. They do use spot colors on layouts, both CMYK built color spot and true spot colors. iQueue will be handling the color management on the way to proofing printers and the printer will be responsible for the color management on the final press run. He will be receiving the original PM files with the
scans, etc. to work from.
Is there a down side to not upgrading these machines to OS 9.x and Colorsync 3.0x?
