Hi list.
I am starting a project where I scan a lot of images (and target a bunch
coming from others) for a book. After talking to the printers I have chosen
to convert using the Euroscale Coated v2 profile. The printers didnt have a
clue about ICC/profiles - but told me that they scan everthing direct to
CMYK using a ageing Scitex scanner. "Profile's hmmmm? well we just look out
for a 350% total ink and set black for 80-85%..."
This book, which will be printed in four color, will have lots of both color
and grayscale images. I guess I could use the black ink from the Euroscale
Coated profile for the grayscale - but I would get richer images printing
those grayscale's using all four inks - right? Then I need a special CMYK
setup with heavy black generation to prevent that those gray-tones get
colorcasts if the press drifts - right?
What kind of a custom CMYK setup would fit the dot gain of the Euroscale
Coated v2 profile? In the"Real World Photoshop 6" book by Bruce Fraser I
think they say that the dot gain of the Euroscale Coated v2 profile is
around 20%. Should I then make a custom CMYK in Photoshop, using the
Eurostandard coated ink setting, dot gain set to 20%, GCR, black generation
set to heavy, black ink limit to 85% and total ink to 350%??
Am I thinking this correctly? Any comments would be great...
best
Chris
