Hi,
I have been scanning on a Howtek 4500 for two years.
I started using mounting oil. I tried a new oil type product created by
Scanner Drum Supply out of Canada. The product was paraffin based.
One day I heard about Kami on a scanner list. I checked into Kami, I was
told by an alternative supplier of scanner products that they saw small
surface cracks appear in drum being resurface from Kami users. I contacted
the rep from Kami and was told that thousands of users are devoted
customers.
What I have experienced is that Kami is a life saver for operators of drum
scanners. As an Iris printer I purchased into a drum scanner believing that
I wanted to have the perfect scan to work from. The issue is what quality
of scan do you need to obtain the quality of output required.
Flatbeds offer high productivity there is no doubt about it. I think it is
telling that a large local digital shop that purchased in to the 50,000
scitex flatbed ended up bringing a drum scanner back into there shop after
three years of not offering scans from the drum.
I would suggest that anyone looking for a drum check out Howtek9s machines.
My machine has been 100% online since I purchased it. If you go the Howtek
path op for the Digital Darkroom software. This package was developed by a
scanning guru on the west coast Phil Lipincott
email@hidden who operates, aztec corp....Matter of fact
I would suggest you contact
http://www.aztek.com/...tell him I sent you...
You have to run the scanning software on a PC but this is a small trade off
compared with the power of this software package.
As for Kami use it and enjoy the ease of scanning with it. Their products
are great.
