Epson 5500...

Epson took a while to post the details of the Epson 5500 on their website.
It has some attractive features, such as a new Fiery RIP (optional), higher
resolution, faster printing speeds... and archival inks.

We'd like to get it, but the archival inks are less important to me than the
ability to calibrate and generate a profile (after all, this is a proofing
device). So what's the deal? Epson's newest, top of the line, printers all
use the archival inks... which means that it's pretty difficult to generate
a good profile.

I guess this leads to three questions:

1. Can you use 'regular' inks inside these printers to avoid the problem all
together?

2. What is the Managed Color community doing to deal with the challenges of
getting a accurate reading from the archival inks since this seems to be the
direction that the manufacturers are headed?

3. Is Epson working with the Managed Color community to ensure that (fairly
expensive) color management tools are going to work with Epson's printers to
help customers use both to generate a successful proofing system?
