There are software packages deisgned specificly for the textile industry that
take factors like texture and sheen into account, and work from full spectral
data, instead of simple Lab values; the price would probably scare you
however. For uses where a 0/45 degree spectro is appropriate, the SpectroCam
should be fine, but in fabric work, spherical spectros are more common.
Attempting to use color matching technologies designed for paper with fabric
has built in limitations; however when the fabric samples are sufficiently
texture and gloss free, and the dyes are not excessively fluorescent, the
results are usable...as appears to be the case with the Pantone fabric
swatches.
