Here's another one of those never-ending monitor questions ;-)
The last monitor we bought was a LaCie 19", based on its reputation. I
hate it. The text isn't sharp, and after two repairs it's still afwul. Of
course, the service guy says it's perfect on their bench. (There's some
form of misaligment: when you seen black text on a grey background,
there's a white 'shadow' on the right edge of the black lines, this makes
reading text very straining on the eyes. Any ideas for a solution?)
Later I also saw a LaCie at our lithographers' office. He hates it too,
and understandably. There are color blotches all over the screen on his
21". His was returned three time before he gave up... (I already gave up
after two.)
Well, we're getting an extra computer again and need another monitor,
21". Needless to say, no more LaCie for us; and we've also had bad
experiences with Sony and Apple. So, two new options:
- The Mitsubishi 2040u, which has gotten good reviews here.
- The Storm/Heidelberg 21TE. Haven't seen any comments on, but it looks
like a bargain since it includes Viewopen and a calibrator for the same
price at the Mitsu. (The calibrator isn't a big deal, we already have a
good one, but Viewopen might be nice.)
Both aren't sold much over here so my dealer can't share any experiences
with them.
What about these two? Which would be better suited for pre-press? Has
anyone encountered problems with one of these?
Thanks, Wim
