Yes, the ColorMatch workspace profile was updated between Photoshop 5 and 6.
The version shipped with 6 fixed a minor bug present in the earlier version.
You're not crazy!
Yes, you'd have a slight transformation converting from one to the other;
just look and see if it's perceptible. I'd bet it's not, but others here
know better.
