When you say "resave it without embedding the profile", do you really mean
you checked the "Exclude non-image data"? I suspect that does a lot more
than not include the profile, but also excludes all the previews, icons, and
other Mac resources. Copying files with resource data to a non-HFS disc
probably makes files that Windows cannot read.
