In fact BlackMagic claims exactly the same as you do; no descreening, but
"RDT - Real Dot Technology" reproducing the original imagesetter rip dots
in the proofer.
They also have a descreening mode; they also have a rip mode, with error
diffusion screening, and a rip mode with supercell am screening.
So right now I know of three solutions claiming dot reproduction without
descreening.
1) SeeColor: the first one, only for newspapers (up to 120lpi), really
great. Own color management, spectral based. Only for HP 600-dpi plotters.
2) BlackMagic: the second to appear, all the way to 175 or 200lpi,
ICC-based color management, drives 4 or 6 inks, can use 6 inks for
imagesetter dot simulation. Drives a variety of devices including HP,
Epson, Canon.
3) BestColor Screen Proof: the latest to appear, ICC-based, no other
details known yet. Drives a variety of devices.
is someone aware of more of these "true dot" proofing softwares?
