On Mac OS the Apple CMM and the Heidelberg CMM are both open and use no
proprietary tags. You may use them interchangeably.
And let's try to keep a lid on CMM issues overall. It's strategic industry
stuff and therefore highly explosive. From a user point of view what we need
to think about is how to measure and apply profiles properly. We can't do
anything with CMMs except choose among those which are open and
non-proprietary.
Probably a good idea. After all, we don't want the wavering hand to
slap. But many (I imagine), while capable of grasping many or most
issues involving profiles and profiling, fall into the camp of: "I
can change this. Now should I?" Personally (and professionally) I'm
not so concerned with CMMs in depth. For all I need to know as a CMM
user I rely on folks like yourself.
For instance (neophyte stupid question #88): I would like to know if
there is any real value to changing the old "lino" default CMM in one
of our graphic artist's scanner profiles generated from four year old
software or if it's best to just let color nature (and Heidlberg)
take its course? (I'd rather buy him new software...but he still
thinks profiles are akin to silhouettes.)
If I'm 'outta line' give me a lil spankin' and I'll go back to ma
mouse. Go ahead...I can take it...I keep telling people colorsync is
exciting work...woohoo! Happy International Worker's Day! Workers of
the world untie!
