I need to match my Matchprint proof by printing on my HP 5000.
The blueish white of the photobase compared to the yellowish color of
the matchprint seems to be causing a problem.
Absolute Colorimetric rendering tries to make the HP print a yellow tone
in the background but it doesn't match.
Perceptual robs the image of yellow.

Also - you should compare to relative colorimetric rather than
perceptual. Perceptual will do gamut mapping that is inappropriate
for proofing.
Another thing you can do - sometimes this is the best route - is get
paper for the 5000 that more closely matches the paper white of the
Matchprint and then use relative colorimetric. White point simulation
can be done fairly accurately but if you can avoid it, all the better.
Absolutely, Perceptual for proofing is dead wrong. It displaces
colors instead of matching colors 1:1.
Ideally, the same paper is used on the press as in the digital
proofing system. In this case Relative Colorimetric is the correct
solution. Colors are not displaced and there is no lightness
compression either.
If you are targetting MatchPrint, then you should be looking at the
Imation base for the HP 5000 with RelCol matching for the proof (but
Perceptual for the separation itself). I'm not sure where in the
world you are, but I've put Imation in Duesseldorf on cc. You should
be able to get help on the consumables here.
