Ulf:
You are right, I know absolutely nothing about these other RIPs. Again
making assumptions about the nature of things I shouldn't have.
I did check out the BEST RIP at the Roland booth at Seybold Boston. The
screening I saw there, although good, was unacceptable for my purposes. I
was unable to find anyone there who could tell me whether what I was looking
at was the best that could be obtained with the BEST RIP. Are you using your
own screening or Harlequin?
Does the BEST RIP allow the user to control the transitions between the dark
and light ink colors? How?
Actually for me, control over black generation is very important. Would it
be possible to control the BEST RIPs black plate via the icc profile? For
instance by using the Imation CMM? My problems are pretty peculiar, I am
trying to get some control over the quadtone printing process with no
success so far.
Nothing I have read makes much sense - a lot of talk about sending CMYK
files through quickdraw drivers, etc. One company, Cone editions, is trying
to address the problem with proprietary inksets and drivers but the results
were less than satisfactory for me. Right now I am sort of lost at sea on
this one. Any help you could offer on the subject would be greatly
appreciated by me and many others I'm sure.
Best wishes,
Nick Wheeler
