Hello Nick.
In my opinion, if you need to have control over black generation you can do
it by two ways:
1. Use BEST Color (or other true 4-color ICC compliant RIP) and use your own
ICC profiler software. Then you'll be able to create any black generation
policy and TIC which you like. (TIC=Total Ink Coverage).
2. You can use Imation Color RIP v.2.x for A3/A2/A1/A0 printers. It looks
like BEST Color but it have Imation CFM inside of the RIP. You can use this
CFM to have control over black generation without ICC profiler software.
You'have GCR, UCR, "From Profile" and "Reatin Black Integrity" Black
generation strategy choices. You'll be able to use "colorimetric part" of
profile and override TIC and "black generation part" (sorry for such non-ICC
compliant terms:)))
Hope this will helps.
