Hello:
I don't know if anyone else has run into this problem but we are having
banding problems with graduated backgrounds and feathered and/or blurred
shadows in PS6. As an example of the problem: we create a 3" diameter
circular selection on a white background in PS6 (I am working in Adobe 98
RGB, 6"x 9" file @ 300ppi), feather the selection 12 pixels, fill the
feathered selection with PS's default black applied normally @ 20% opacity.
When viewed @ 100% (on my system: G-3, 19" LaCie, calibrated and profiled w/
Profilemaker 3.1.4 + Spectrolino) the feathered edge shows distinct banding.
When this same file is opened in PS4.0 the same feathered edge shows as a
smooth gradation. The problem exists regardless of the working or
destination color space and does not seem to change even when the monitor
profile is changed or color management is shut off. We have been
silhouetting and adding artificial shadowing to small jewelry pieces for
years (for output to film for 4 color, 133-150 line offset) and have never
run into this problem until we upgraded to PS6. Is this a color management
issue with PS6? Any ideas?
