Proofing on Destination Stock

Hi all,
I've been debating whether to add a checkbox to my app to allow users to
turn off the simulation of paper white when hard proofing images. Basically
all this would do would use Relative Colorimetric intent instead of Absolute
for the final conversion stage to the proof device profile. I was only going
to do this because the ECI guidelines specify that relative intent should be
used when proofing on the same stock as the destination press.

My question is: Doesn't a different profile need to be created for every
type of stock used on the proofing device? And if so, why does it matter if
relative or absolute rendering intent is used? Won't the profile creation
software pick up that the paper is different and adjust colours accordingly?
If Absolute means 1 to 1 conversion, won't there be very little (if any)
conversion on the whites? The press stock would be almost identical to the
white of the proofing device stock.

The only reason I can think of is that you could create one profile for your
proofing device and use that profile for every type of stock you have. Is
this possible?
