Thanks, that makes sense.
1) So for the sake of argument, if you happened to have a software
package that doesn't have an option for that 'raw' scan, and the output
file always has to be written in some known color space, it's impossible
to make a profile for general purposes?
But it would be possible to make a profile instead that's 'locked in' to
the particular color space used?
2) Now, what if you wanted to test that profile in Photoshop, instead of
in the scanner software? Then you'd want a 'raw' image scan, load it into
Photoshop and do a PtoP from profiled scanner space to your preferred
working space. I can see two ways of doing this: a) use the 'Scan IT8'
option for the image file too, or b) save the scan using the scanner
profile as its color space.
Is this correct?
Since a profiling package I'm testing is giving weird results, and the
maker asked me to send him the raw scans, I'm trying to work out that
second question.
