I'd like more information on ISO 12647.
I will look for answers to your questions.
To my way of thinking anything that moves the concept of standard
printing conditions forward these days is helpful, as the desktop has
to proof before the press is run, and often not knowing what press
the job will run on.
(There is a secondary thread within the ECI that discusses the
balance between profiles based on standard printing conditions, and
profiles based on individual print shop optimizations. IMO first
things first, refinements come later, though.)
Is there a way to download this
data somewhere and build profiles based on it, or are there profiles
already built?
There are no profiles available from www.fogra.org as the gamut
mapping and black generation strategy is native to each profiling
application. There were vendor profiles posted in the beginning, but
this was discontinued. Meaning also that Apple would have to 'roll
its own', I suppose.
You download the data, load the IT8.7-3 as reference (the IT8.7-3 is
by the way also renamed and should also be renamed on the Mac OS
installation CD) and the ISO 12647 averaged measurement data of your
choice as sample, choose your settings in the profiling application,
and build the profile.
