Bureau proceedures (and Photoshop 6)

Hi

Has any one ever received or sent a file that has had a profile mismatch?
A client of mine has just found out the hard way that sending a job with a
generic CMYK profile in all TIFF files produced an absolute disaster for
him. However the Bureau concerned did not appear to have any check list to
ensure that the profile information was Euro-standard 9% dot gain (their
flow flow standard). As a consequence the client concerned has paid (him
self) for the replacement film etc.

There appears to be a trap for young players when creating a new Photoshop 6
document then opening a scan (from a bureau - with Profile embedded) and
dragging the scan across into the new doc and choosing preserve color
appearance. It still looks the same however has the new profile embedded
when saved (In this case it was the Generic CMYK profile). If the Bureau
doesn't pickup this change or the designer understanding profiles then...

Does any one have an up-to-date checklist that I could see please then I
could help improve communication between bureaus and designers.

Thank you.
