I work in the service bureau/art dept. at medium-sized printing company
that is moving towards CTP. 50% of our work is 32+ page books. The
balance is broch/pamphlets, direct mail pieces and LARGE box labels.
We are at the stage of implementing the digital proofing devices. We
have an Epson 9000 for color proofing and an HP Spinjet 2-sided
imposition proofer. We have several Mac G4's and a PC workstation that
uses RamPage to RIP our files.
Our Epson 9000 has been calibrated by a color consultant to our presses.
Here's the problem ... our Sales staff (9) and our Customer Service
Reps. (7) are not moving with us. We are constantly having to sell the
digital workflow both to our fellow employees and our customers.
Although this should be a management issue, the bottom line is that we
are in the trenches here and battling with our own team.
The sales staff and the CSR's complain about the color from the Epson
(when usually it is because the art being proofed was using vector art
which is a known problem, or the customer is comparing our Epson proofs
to their non-calibrated/who knows what brand ink-jet printers on crappy
paper.)
OR
The HP proofs don't show crisp type or clear images so they're concerned
about the quality of their product.
Constantly we are doing tests by running film (sumo 44") and making Fuji
color proofs and comparing to the Epsons and then to press proofs.
Here's the question ... Is anyone else having this problem? HELP ...
almost bald.
