Chris,
I used to have one of the old fruit coloured iMacs. I was never satisfied
with the monitor image and was for ever taking it apart to fiddle with the
brightness and contrast knobs inside the casing. There is no great secret to
doing it other than carefully taking the thing apart to get to the two
adjustment knobs (which are located towards the front inside the case to the
top left as you look at the screen from the front). The hard part is getting
the case apart. My memory is a bit hazy about this procedure but the
objective is to get the main coloured part (in your case the bondi section)
of the casing off. If I remember correctly you need to start by removing the
bottom clear part of the case, remove the lower front bezel (bit with the
speaker grills) to reach some more screws. Removing these screws allows you
to remove the front monitor surround which I think then gives you access to
the screws holding the top (coloured) part of the casing. With most of the
casing removed you can reach (with the aid of a screwdriver) the two
adjustment knobs which control the monitor contrast and brightness. I'm sure
you are aware of the dangers of messing around with exposed CRT tubes (even
when off!) so be careful when you make the adjustments.
Hope this helps.
Ian Watts.
