Pigment inks and glossy papers both are factors, and pigment inks on glossy
papers are the worst, as well as suffering from other problems. If you can
live with semi-gloss or lustre surfaces then pigment inks are excellent.

It's amazing how CD sweeps into a topic, fills his glass, and still
manages to hit the nail on the head. I went through a four month
battle with various gloss papers (looking for cheap alternative to
Roland's premium priced PET-G film) and finally settled on Rexam
semi-gloss and lustre. Curing (dry time) is prohibitive but it's an
affordable alternative for the time being. My latest foray is into
semi-gloss and gloss polyester films. My biggest concerns to date are
really how low of an ink limit can you go before there just isn't
anything left? 120? 110? 100? 80? At what point does one just give up
and move on to another roll?
CD, if you've been there done that how about tossing a fish to lil'
ol' flippa over here in the corner...
