Inkjet profiles?

Wow, you folks are way over my head. I know next to nothing about ColorSync, and don't need a really accurate calibration. I'd just like to improve the match between what appears onscreen and what my printer spits out. Maybe you can direct me?

My HP DeskWriter 660c color inkjet is connected to my Mac. I would like to calibrate it a little better so what's onscreen matches the printout a little better. I'm just concerned with the DeskWriter--this isn't pre-press to be printed elsewhere.

First, I can't figure out which profile to use for my Apple Multiple Scan 20 Display monitor. The closest matches in the pop-up profile list are:
Apple Multiple Scan 20-9300,
Apple Multiple Scan 20-D50, and
Apple Multiple Scan 20-D65.
How can I tell what model I have?

Second, I can't find a ColorSync profile for the 660c, or any HP inkjet printer. Is there a site where I can find third-party profiles for inkjet printers? Is there a generic or common profile that would work?

Or is it even worth trying any of this with a DeskWriter?

Thanks for any suggestions,
