Hi all
i have some questions about the inner structure of profiles and hope you can
help me.
1. when print substrate-color is calculated out of the measured colors in
order to generate intents, are there any guidelines which mode of
calculation should be used and what factors can cause differences (kind of
program used or CMM or anything else)?
2. what kind of table describes the CMYK to LAB direction - i assume it is
just one table, colorimetric refered to whitepoint D50 and black scaled to
L=0. (that's why we always have to turn on paperwhite and black ink after a
CMYK file is opened, right?) therefore, there ain't any real colorimetric
profiles because paperwhite is always calculated out and in afterwards. L is
relative anyway. (which is necessary, any other way wouldn't work) though it
could be called 'interpolated colorimetric' or something. the more accurate
the calculation, the more real the reality. which is reality, i think.
3. is there a profile-editor who is capable to edit both directions at one
time or provides some kind of interactivity or is able to relate those
changes to each other? i am not very happy with the circumstance to edit any
output-direction without changing the other side, so this profile behaves
different on both sides. Is there any way to correct the gamut without the
necessity to change the rendering intents in order to minimize differences?
the idea is to assure the gamut itself is correct, and based on this intents
should be generated. What do you think about to create a 'measured data -
editor', to have clean intents from the first?
thanks in advance for any help and comments, Andre Schuetzenhofer
(i hope my english sounds not to much like german)
