So why do so many camera manufacturers insult the consumers intelligence by
> using this marketing technique?

-- because they're selling to photographers? ;)

<ducking!> -- hey, take it easy, I'm one, too!

I am fairly convinced that either they don't realize that an icc workflow would improve the color coming off their products, or they think that added color tools suggest their product is somehow not complete out of the box. I'm betting on #2 And yes I think it is because
they are selling to photographers. As a group we are a fairly self assured lot, (at least we think we are) so when the manufacturers , and dealers (can't leave them out of this) tell us all we need is in this box we naturally think we can figure this out. It amazes me that
several years into this I still hear photographers say they don't need color management and what great color they get off their epson (if it looks good here it must be good). So I personally think there are a lot of people in this chain who should be ducking. And
photographers should wake up and realize that they have been sold a bill of goods.
