dear all,
I'd really appreciate any advice on the following:
I print on an 8-color Colorspan Esprit, run by Colorspan's own
ColorMark SW RIP. I generate my own profiles with Colorspan's
Colormakr+ profile generator and a Gretag Spectrolino.
I've been trying to print sepia-toned BW images on different media
-Arches Rough Watercolor paper and CS's Photobase. In all custom
profiles I build there is a visible color shift in the greyscale test
strip - shadows are greenish, light greys and highlights are reddish.
(I know CS recently released a quadtone BW inkset, and I'll
definitely use it - but now I need sepia, and besides, the color
shift is obvious in the color prints as well.)
This new version of the ColorMark+ profile generator/editor supports
editing only in the black channel and the spot channels of the RIP's
output profile. As the manual says, "editing the CMY curves can give
unexpected results". Thanks!
For the moment, I spend half a day with each profile, printing
greyscale test strips and tweaking different parts of the red and
green curve in Photoshop. Applying these corrections to the TIFF file
before sending it to print, I manage to get a visibly monochrome
prints, but the tweaked curves sometimes result in unnatural tonal
gradations.
Any suggestions for another way to get around this problem? Could the
green/red shift be the fault of the Spectrolino we use? Or the
software (it allows linearization over 7 patches per color only) - ?
Thanks in advance:
Boris
