There is no reason laser toner CMYK should match the density of press CMYK...
if fact it is preferable if it has some extra density, to allow it the
strength to emulate a variety of devices. Your problem seems to be that you
are not using a press emulation profile to choke the laser's colors back to a
particular press type. MatchBox is a bit limited for this type of CMYK work,
as it has fixed CMYK settings that can't be adjusted for different device
types.
