In theory there should be little or no difference.
That is, if the colors are the same in each space (RGB values would
be different) then conversion to another space tends to be based on
the tables in the destination profile.
Now, RGB values that are the same in each space (producing different
colors) will probably map to different colors after the profile
conversion because they started more saturated and, in the case of
"pure primaries" are often a different hue. So 255,0,0 should really
map to a different color in the output space as it will represent a
different color (in L, C and H) in the source space....
