The D1 didn't necessarily have a problem with magenta casts. The problem was
no one had a decent profile to describe the raw RGB off the camera. If you
followed Nikons silly advice to tag the file with NTSC RGB (or similar
space) you got pretty ugly results. Now if you had a good, accurate ICC
profile that described the color the camera actually captured, you got
pretty good results.
I haven't had a chance to check out the D1X but I understand Nikon takes
some of these older issues out of the loop by allowing you to capture and
end up in known RGB spaces like Adobe RGB 1998. That is certainly doable or
it's possible they are still in the dark about how to tag their files. I
just haven't had a chance to check it out. I suspect a good input profile
will solve a lot of issues. Of course Nikon can solve this little issue like
many other lower end manufacturers by simply shooting into sRGB. At least
it's a defined space if a lousy one at that. Figuring out exactly what a
camera manufacturer is really doing with their data is like trying to locate
where Bin Laden is hiding!
