It sounds like one of the things we call metamerism in inkjet prints...

The type of "metamerism" that you are describing is quite noticable on matte
stocks, as opposed to the type that shows most on glossy stock, using inks
like the Epson Encapsulated Pigment inks in the 2000p. Other inks that you
could use in the 1270, such as Lyson's Fotonics, or MIS inks also suffer from
this same type of metamerism as your current ink set.

The answer here would vary with the inkset chosen... but assumedly you were
thinging of the long life pigment inks noted above (similar to the 2000p
inks, and very metameric).
I would recommend you try printing the type of image in question with the
10000 before purchsing one specificly for this job, as you may find it
problematic.
