Right now the most compatible, and least expensive way to connect a
serial device to a USB Mac that I've had success with over a host of
software is the Keyspan USA19QW. This is the FAST version of their PDA
adapter (USA19Qi) which doesn't seem as compatible with all software.
Note however that unlike the Keyspan 28x, this model has a 9 pin PC
style port, which would require an adapter for either the DTP92 or
Digital Swatchbook (generally provided with them if purchased new, I'd
check if you were buying used.) I've heard good things about a few other
pricier options, or internal devices but haven't tested them.
One last note. Keyspan has recently revved the USA28x hardware to a
version USA28xb (only visible on the device, though I believe the
package has a star burst that says "now 4x faster"). This version of the
adapter works with our ColorShop software, but doesn't seem to work on a
lot of other software. Keyspan is reportedly working on a new driver to
fix this. Meantime if the USA28x is what you want (sometimes having two
serial ports are nice) Check with your vendor on which revision they
have to sell.
