I've been looking at this on a colleagues system - I think I'm
getting it right.
QXP4x
Don't use the inbuilt CM, it takes an age and only handles
tiffs.
We apparently need to add the Praxisoft Compass Pro XTN and
this will handle conversions on output from Quark elegantly.
From RGB, CMYK, EPS whether profiles are Embedded or Presumed,
even vector and type is done right.
Conversion to destination space plainly works on export and
printing whether repro / desktop CMYK / rip or desktop
Quickdraw/ RGB but how about to the screen?
The manual mentions needing a good monitor profile in the
introduction, but then shows it inserted as the final output
device [printer] in profile setup! [apparently for making
postscript/pdf's] . Perhaps the monitor profile is just used a
la Photoshop 4, as a document space to assume for incoming
images.
Later I read <colors you see on your monitor will be
faithfully reproduced>. So does it automatically see the system
profile on the fly? I'd say definitely not as I'm seeing a big
difference between similar files in differing workingspaces when
brought into Quark.
Seeems a shame that the XT cannot apparently deal with device
independant colour. I hope I'm wrong here.
Thanks for the time.
