I have recently gotten serious about my color management, and so am
encountering first-time (for me) problems. Wondering if others have too,
and know the solution. My current issue is with insufficient memory
messages in PhotoShop 6.0. It appears to occur when trying to print a file
in which I opt to "keep the embedded profile" vs. "convert to working
space".
For example, I scanned film with my Nikon LS4000, produced a 17MB file and
tried printing to my Epson 1270 unsuccessfully - ie. got the memory message.
I had no problem printing an older 23MB file that was produced without an
embedded profile.
Here's another question. In the ColorSync settings, I used Nikon LS 4000 as
my Input device profile (have not yet produced an IT8 custom profile for the
scanner). I use the PhotoShop scanner plug-in SilverFast Ai as the scanning
software. When the image is processed and ready to open in PhotoShop, there
is the (normal) message asking whether I want to use the embedded profile,
convert to monitor color space, or not color manage. I select to keep the
embedded profile (this is recommended, right?). But here's the question:
the embedded profile that is listed is not the Nikon LS 4000 I selected as
Input in ColorSync, rather it is given as "Epson Stylus Photo 1270
Standard", a profile that I cannot even locate in my ColorSync list.
Any ideas?
The last question I have is regarding memory setup in Photoshop 6.0. How
much memory is optimal to allocate to the application? And should virtual
memory be used or not? If so, how much?
Many thanks - for many questions.
