I'd like to mention the 'cost no issue' more expensive option of the
Roland FJ500. Same head technology as Epson but built solid like
tank. Arguably the HP5000 is speedy and less expensive and easier to
operate on some issues, but heads wear at about 1000hrs though are
easy to change. The Epsons I don't know that well as the metamarism
issues around the inks have steered us clear of them (we do art
reproduction, so that's an issue for us). The FJ500 is now also being
offered as a package w/Best ScreenProof and defining custom screens
for proofing has been on the Roland plate since the advent of the
CJ500 three some years ago.
Each printer has its own issues, strengths and weaknesses. Epson and
HP both have some features sorely lacking in the Roland arena, but
Roland has some simple strengths to counter. If I were you I would
look at who is offering the best service package locally to support
your large format printer. Do they have the preventative technical
smarts to keep you up and running? And will they be there when you
really need them - now?
Also, the RIP (which one?) you use for your imagesetter: does it
support any of these printers?
good luck
