What they are suggesting is insanely stupid! You should look for a new

service bureau! What you want to do (send out a target to profile their

devices) can and should be done (by them I'd suggest). The idea of screwing

up your display to match what they kludge together is not something you want

to do!
Andrews very right. Now what to do when a sb doesn't want to do things for
open portable colour;
1 Calibrate your system, especially the screen.
2 Get a decent printer hopefully not to metameric if you don't have
controlled lighting.
3 Get yourself a RIP that reaches as high as your colour expectations. Out
of the box BestColor DE will fetch you a proof that will pretty much match a
press page side by side and proof and page to screen (within the limits of
the display capabilities).
4 Separate to Eurocoated V2 according to Henriks guidelines or Bruce
Fraser's RealWorld Photoshop.
5 Give them the separated Tiff and if you want to make them sweat tell them
that they should have a similar output to your proof (if Bestcolor
PressReady won't always be as close).
This way you've got the reassurance of YOUR colours. If the sb IS good
they'll match it or better it. If not they're to dropped like a hot potato,
and find yourself another.
