The only thing missing is a profile on YOUR end of the same target
proofed/printed using your system. Now you've got something to work with.
The "workflow" would be something like this:
* Receive supplied scans and proof from service bureau.
* Open images which should hopefully be already tagged with the service
bureau's proofing profile that you created from their target. If not, you
ASSIGN the correct profile in Photoshop upon opening the image.
* Use Photoshop's "Convert to Profile" command to convert from the SOURCE
profile (the service bureau's) to your DESTINATION profile. If the original
image is supplied as CMYK, don't sweat which rendering intent to use since
the color gamuts should be similar. I'd use relative colorimetric. If the
images are supplied as RGB, then you'll need to experiment with rendering
intents to get the look/conversion you're after.
Even though the CMYK numbers will likely be a lot different than the
original image, this will make the image appear nearly the same as their
supplied proof only now adjusted for your proof/print conditions.
One other warning, you'll need to know the specifics of their proofer
(RGB/CMYK?) to be able to profile it correctly.
Cheers,
Terry
