I have experienced a recurring problem with ProfilemakerPro v3.1.5 that I
have been unable to resolve. I wonder if anyone on the list has a solution.
It has been consistent across the G3 and G4 MacIntosh and OS 9.0, 9.1 and
9.2.1. In all cases a Keyspan 28x USB adaptor has been used with various
iterations Keyspan drivers.
When I first installed the application on a G3 it worked well for a while.
Then for no apparent reason (no software update or system change of any
kind) it started to time out whenever a measurement with a Spectroscan
Table
was attempted. With help from Gretag technical support I tracked down all
the usual suspects (including sending the Spectroscan back for repair and a
firmware upgrade) to no avail.
In desperation I finally moved the application to a newer machine (a G4)
where it miraculously recovered and started to work again. The same problem
has now reappeared on the G4 and again no apparent resolution. No amount of
system reinstalling, defragmenting, preference trashing, extension
management or desktop rebuilding seems to help. It is absolutely bizarre.
How can an application just up and cease to function one day?
Gretag application support informs me that they have had this problem
reported by others but have been unable to reproduce it themselves. As yet
they have no solution.
Through all my travails I have been able to perform measurements using
Gretag's Spectrochart Lite v1.2.
Thank you

This sounds like a problem I had with the Sony USB CD-Burner, and I
would move it from computer to computer when it stopped working. It
suggested that there are usb and other settings that you cannot reach from
the control panel, preferences or extensions. Try doing a clean install on
the system ? Optimize the hard drive and reinstall the system from scratch?
Is there a Mac expert that can confirm this?
ps. where can I find this software on the web?
