While this is post is off of any of the current topics. I was just at the
Print 01 trade show and briefly (for 15 minutes) saw the new series of HP
color printers when I was leaving yesterday. The specs and prices for these
printer are quite good. Epson should be paying attention to these products.
The HP printers are called 10 ps, 20 ps and 50 ps. The 10 ps is the entry
level, the 20ps is a workgroup solution. The 10ps and 20 ps with their rips
run on Windows and Mac. The 50 ps is supposed to be a prepress contract
color proofer and the 50 ps rip is from Heidelburg. While the prints from
these printers looked good I will not know how good they really are until I
work with them. All of these products come with PostScript 3 rips. The
10ps and 20 ps run on Windows and Macs. The 10ps list price is just under
$1000 and the 50ps is around $3000. All of these printers support ICC
profiles and press simulations. The paper size is approximately 11x17 for
the 10ps and 20ps and 13 x 19 for the 50ps. Does anyone have any comments
yet about the the color capabilities or quality of these printers?
