Or have I never understood what DeskCheck was doing?
Joseph,
When Aurelon introduced the DeskCheck software it would not rely on ICC
color management. The reason for this was that we wanted to offer an
automated press accurate proofing solution that would be on target
everytime, even for the user that did not have any color expertise. Thus the
closed system. However, as you may have noticed reading the posts on this
mailinglist, lots of people rely on the ICC standard. Aurelon just
introduced a different way of working.
The Aurelon nColor Engine that is incorporated with the DeskCheck and
Signalize! software, uses the actual spectral measurements of the supported
spectrophotometers. In short, we do not convert to Lab instantly, but we use
a mathematic calculation on the spectral data. This data is not what you
will find in any ICC profile. Converting Fingerprints to basic ICC profiles
will not give the same results, unless you know what you are doing with
color and know how to influence it. We wanted to offer a certain level of
quality that would be accurate and easily reproducible on various brands and
models of inkjet printers, but of course we also wish that people will see
the benefits of this system.
So, to answer your question; we have changed the software in a way that it
is ICC compliant, but still offer the advantage of using spectral data.
DeskCheck Calibrator will let you measure color profiles (Fingerprints)
using a wizard based application that updates the RIP instantly, but now we
also support one's custom made CMYK ICC profile.

Thank you, Andrew and David, I appreciate it. Any suggestions are welcome of
course. Send me an e-mail off-list: I don't wish to do publish sales related
information that may be of lesser interest to the Colorsync readers.
