And if the profile's preferred CMM is not installed on the system?
The term Default CMM is used for the CMM that ships in the OS ICC
API. If a profile can't find it's native CMM, it gets processed by
the Default CMM. Which is a reasonable reason for saying that only
conversions executed with the Default CMM are device independent, but
here a lot of people probably wouldn't agree.
My scenario:
LinoCMM in profile.
Apple, Kodak, Agfa, Heidelberg CMMs installed
It doesn't go like that. When you look inside the profile, it reads
APPL. It did not read LinoColor CMM when the LinoColor CMM was the
Default CMM. One reason is that the Default CMM is called out by OS
platform.
APPL is the Default CMM in ColorSync, whatever that CMM may be at any
stage in the evolution of the Apple ICC API.
MSFT is the Default CMM in Windows, whatever that CMM may be at any
stage in the evolution of the Microsoft ICC API.
