Paul,
Yes, I meant 0.10. (Dam, and I read that before I sent it.) I don't
think the exact value 3.70/3.77/3.8x/4.0 is critical. The point is to
use the whole, or close to, it dynamic range of the scanner. When
scanning a real transparency I usually use some where between 1.0 and
1.5 (sometimes 2.0!) for the white point and 3.2 to 4.0 for black,
usually 3.4x (can't remember now if that's 3.42 or 3.44). I generally
never change the exposure 5 seems to work well. Your scans will still
need some tweeking somewhere, either in the scanning software, from
editing your profile (this works very well, pick some common examples
and "fix" the profile for them. Then save it with a recognizable
name), or in Photoshop afterward. I found the straight profile cool
and somewhat dark in the mid-tones (but it's still just the ticket
for some stuff) I was blown away by the grayscale balance though,
pretty much within one value RGB of dead neutral end to end. The
"black black Q-60" profile is closer to neutral in the dark tones.
See if you can get a copy of Oxygen, "scan" should be free. It's
"open" they want you to buy for the DT file features.
