At VuePoint 2000, there was a session on Colour Management. On the panel were 4 users from respectable corporations that had implemented CM to varying degrees of success. One question for the panel was: (1) Do you edit profiles? (2) And if so, on average, how many edit cycles does a profile undergo before you are satisfied with it?
The answer to the first question was unanimously: Yes, every profile requires editing. (In other words, a single reading of a target is NEVER sufficiently accurate.) This answer surprised me somewhat. I expected that some would be edited but not every one.
So I was mildly surprised at that one, but I wasn't ready for the answer to the second question. The answer was (agreed by the panelists) to be about 12 edit cycles per profile. WOW!
I know of one user that takes his first reading of the target. He never edits a profile. He is getting good results and is happy with it.
My question for the forum is: what are your answers to the above two questions? Why?
PS - Remember, this was way back in March of 2000. You need not agree with the panelists, after all, technology is constantly improving.
