Hi all,
I'm a newbie to all this color calibration and have some questions of how to
get "fine" colors with digital fine art photography. I am just doing my own
stuff: portraits, architecture, still life, no demand for 200% logo color
accuracy but I like to see on the screen what I will get on the printer. I am
using PhotoCal and Profiler Plus RGB for profiling my Lacie 19" monitor and
the Epson Photo 1290 printing on Hahnemuehle coated papers with Generation 4
inks. And I will buy a large format printer (probably an Epson 7000). The
results in terms of color accuracy and gamut I achieved so far are not really
overwhelming and I guess that it could be done much better. Part of this
deficiency is for shure my ignorance. Thanks to this group I have already
learned a lot...but I also got lost in deep color space and don't really know
how to proceed now. More specifically my questions are:
Considering my purposes would it be necessary to invest thousands of dollars
for high-end profiling hard- and software like ProfileMaker or would it be
better to outsource the profile creation and just tweak these "standard"
profiles according to my personal demands with Doctor Pro or ColorBlind Edit
or ...?
Would you recommend one of the less expensive solutions like Profiler Pro and
a non-automated measuring device like CM2C or CM2S (measuring time is not that
important for me but are they accurate enough)? Are there any other options in
this price segment (ColorBlind Matchbox, Monaco...)?
I think the Epson RGB driver dithering is really good but I have no comparsion
right now and the media settings are limited. Is a RIP with its enhanced
possibilities of linearization and ink control necessary to get the largest
possible gamut? If yes would you recommend a certain RIP / profiling
combination?
Please excuse me for this long thread. Any thoughts and advice regarding my
questions would be appreciated, thank's
Peter
