but I'm having major problems with
making colors consistent between applications.

In the equation replace :

- PageMaker with InDesign,

- Minolta CF911P color lasers with a fast, stable, large gamut PostScript inkjet with built-in nesting / queuing and AppleTalk / TCPIP support,

- the refurbished Colortron II with any other spectrophotometer.

I don't think you are going anywhere with your current resources.
