We are using inkjet (hp5000) for graphic arts proofing.
We rip our files in our rampage and output a large Contone (cmyk) to
print.
Problem is, Black only halftones come out in 4C.
Using Postershop, Monaco Proof.
We really need the black only things to remain black only.
Any suggestions?
Firstly, what version of Postershop to you use? Version 5.6 has the
ability to set a Black and White point in the CMS. See
http://www.onyxgfx.com/Products/Onyx56/PosterShop_Specs.html
There is a good test image for working out issues with colour and
greyscale that can be downloaded from Onyx at the following address
ftp://ftp.onyxgfx.com/UTIL/graphics/colortest.zip
Have you considered using the ripped files from your Rampage (1Bit
Tiff's)? Postershop does support TIFF and Separated Postscript however
it does not have, to my knowledge, the option to "Recombine" 1Bit TIFF
Separations. It is better to Rip your Proof file no more than once
(R.O.O.M.). Secondly, by using the actual Plate ripped data your proof
will display a better, more accurate, black.
If Postershop does not have the require "Black" features then you could
consider: www.absolute-proof.com ASK THEM FOR A 30 day TRIAL DIRECTLY
AND SEE FOR YOURSELF.
I would always use Monaco Pro, as opposed to Monaco Proof, to control my
black output better on Inkjets. The Black in 3c thing is not a Monaco
issue Lee. The only way for a Profile creation system to control Black
in this way is to use a Device Link Profile. A DLP would control, in
this case, CMYK directly to CMYK bypassing LAB. One of the options in
Monaco's Profiler Pro, dealing exclusively with DLP's is the ability to
map a pure Black to Black on the Proofer. Although Postershop is ICC
compatible I do not believe that they yet use DLP's in their colour
setup. It is the colour engine (CMS) inside the Rip, OEM'ed from Gretag
formally known as LOGO in Postershop documentation, that is causing this
to happen by mapping CMYK through LAB and back out to CMYK. The system,
as far as I am aware, does not give the ability to map pure Black
channel out. I think maybe your best option here is the Praxisoft suite
of software. If you want the least expensive option that is.
I am sure you will want to explore this more thoroughly and I look
forward to you next post.
