When both displays are attached, the calibration & profiling does not
go well.
Bad neutrals, etc.

I was wondering about the validity of using a single video
card to support 2 separate lut's.
Seems to work fine using Apple's Display Calibrator (or should I say the
calibrator formerly known as the Default Calibrator?) With a 17" tube
and a 15" flat panel connected to the same card I can calibrate each
one, each display's lut changes correctly without affecting the other
display, each display maintains its own display ID, and each one
maintains its own profile like it should. So far it seems to work just
like having two cards.
Steve when your customer said the calibration process did not go well,
were they any more specific? For instance when changing the lut for one
display did the other display's lut change too? I'm assuming they were
using a third party calibration software package, it'd be interesting to
know which one it was and how if at all it differs from the Display
Calibrator. You might have them calibrate each display with the Display
Calibrator and see what happens.
Oh...let me guess, the calibration software is running in Classic and
they're booted in MacOSX right? I bet that's what it is. That won't
work right until you:
a) make sure the created profile is visible and selected in the MacOSX
Displays prefs panel, and
b) if it doesn't show up at first, copy it into
/Library/ColorSync/Profiles/ so ColorSync on X can see it, and
c) make sure the settings in the Classic ColorSync control panel are the
same as the settings in the MacOSX ColorSync prefs panel. If you're
doing anything with Classic running under X you have to make sure the
settings are the same. It's clearer if you think of them as two
different operating systems, one within the other.
