If you have some sort of measurement device, you can try this:
- print RGB grays,
- print Lab grays,
- print K grays,
- compare them with target grays (offset),
- observe smoothest of L and size of a and b values and ...
... be amazed ;-)
Don't forget to measure the paper.
I tried this, when a client issued 'black' problem, I also arranged all
grays one near to other and asked client to evaluate, which one is the
most 'gray'. Nobody picked gray, printed with black only so far!
My opinion is that black is just another color, and should be treated as
such in CM.
