I got a call from a small company that has purchased a bunch of
hardware/software and asked me to help them with setting it up and this
setup is a bit beyond most of the color management work I do, so I'm curious
about pitfalls, etc. with this setup.
What I know is the Roland is the 8-color version (M, LM, C, LC, Y, B, O, G)
and they will be using the Colorburst 6.2 rip. Also, they purchased
MonocoProof and a DTP-41 UV for creating RGB profiles of the printer. I
haven't read much about this RIP, yet, but I get the impression that it also
has some kind of profile generating capacity, though I can't imagine it's
profiles would be of any use (for soft-proofing) and I'm a bit fuzzy on that
part of it. I'll be hitting the manual later today.
The goal is to be able to soft-proof (within Photoshop) for the different
media they print to and know that they will get what they expect to get.
Apparently they have had the printer for a couple of years and have grown
weary of printing test strips for each job, to get the color right.
Any words of wisdom on any aspect of this?
Mark
