Sam,
The only IT8 transparency I would trust in the box are those from Fuji
because they are hand-measured. As for those from Kodak and AGFA, everytime
I run on someone that has undertaken to custom read them with the
SpectroScanT, it seems like a whole lot of work. As not everyone in the list
is rich enough to afford a SpectroScanT, we're forced to accept the IT8's
batch data at face value. Including yours truly. I can't afford one of those
Barbieri either.
Now the only light, it seems, at the end of this tunnel is Wolf Faust, in
Germany. He makes and sells IT8's at very economical prices. I once wanted
to buy some off him and was telling him how I was planning to custom measure
them with a Spectrolino. To which he replied that I should not waste my time
recreating the custom measurements myself, with a Spectrolino, for his batch
data was more accurate than whathever the Lino could read. True or not, I
don't know. I am still waiting for him to get back to me about an order. He
must be really busy these days.
But, to came to your question, I think one should periodically buy new IT8's
and start the whole process over with fresh targets.
My two cents.
