I hate to be the black sheep of the family, though I'm usually quite
good at it;)
Still, here's my 1.5 pennies on the EyeOne.
I had a demo unit (non-UV) for a couple of weeks. In spite of my
otherwise excellent manual dexterity, I found it impossible to read
whole test charts by scanning rows. On any given chart, there were
perhaps 4 to 8 rows that I had to read by using the EyeOne in spot
mode, ie one patch at a time. (Can you say "slow"?) Your mileage will
vary, but this was mine.
Did I have a defective unit? Who knows? I was not informed either way.
The printer profiles I created with Match were mediocre. The printers
used for testing were a desktop Epson 6-color inkjet and a couple of
Tektronix dye subs, all with strongly fluorescent papers (when
checked under a UV "black light").
This wasn't a proofing application, but rather comparing print to
screen, which I now have about 6 years' worth of experience doing...
FWIW.
The EyeOne did do a nice job on my monitors, especially the 22"
Mitsubishi tube, though I already had a fine profile from ProveIt!
with Sequel meter (!) And yes, I viewed all my prints under Solux
5000K lights in a neutral colored room, wearing neutral clothing :)
Gretag tech support was very nice, but clearly too busy to deal fully
with my problems (what else is new?). I FedEx'ed them my printed
charts and they made profiles from the same charts and e-mailed them
to me. I guess _they_ didn't have trouble reading those charts,
presumably with _their_ EyeOne... There were some differences in tech
support's profiles vs those I made, but I'd still call all these
profiles mediocre.
Frankly, I've had better results with a ColorMouse and CompassProfile
2.5 on the same printers.
Sad but true. In my little world, at least.
