Well, I hate to be the one to break the bad news but, even if the utility is
now fixed, copying the resultant modified profile into my OSX
Library>ColorSync>Profile and loading it in the System
Preferences>ColorSync>Display does not make any difference of just leaving
the previous profile that does not contain the appended VCGT? Alas, my
monitor does not all of a sudden shifts color, during OSX startup, like it
does when ColorBlind Video Startup runs during Classic startup.
Could it be because OSX does not download the VCGT in my video card properly
at startup -- I have no way to test that. Or is it because
ProfileGammaTagger does not actually do the job right, somehow?
I have to say that I have conducted this experiment in Classic. But Chromix
indeed shows the VCGT into the modified monitor profile? I can't go further
than that, though. I mean there isn't anyway to peek further than the
presence of the VCGT in the profile in Chromix's present v1.01.
I find the time to boot under 9 and do Bruce Lindbloom' debugged version the
honor of testing it there. I am curious to see what difference, if any, that
will make.
When this works (I trust eventually it will), there will still be the
problem that the video LUT is not protected territory under OSX. Lot's of
carbon apps overwrite the LUT on exit. So I always have to rerun ColorBlind
Video Startup to reset the LUT to its true calilbrated state everytime.
Which brings the question of OSX video LUT protection or lack thereof.
Anyone noticed that yet? What will be the mechanism to force downloading the
gamma curves in the video LUT under OSX? Certainly not the ColorSync
preferences panel. At least, all there is there is a popup for the display
profile. Period. Unless, of course, it's implicit that selecting a profile
automatically triggers downloading the gammas in the video LUT?
That would be a good start but that's not clear at all. At least, it does
not appear to do anything for me.
Best regards and many thank's Steve Upton and Bruce Lindbloom for your
invaluable help,
Roger Breton
